How Bad Do You Want It?
I have yet to come across one person in all my 41 years that doesn’t have a dream, hope or goal. All of us at some point envisions what our lives will look like. Maybe what college we will attend, who we will marry, what we will accomplish professionally, like writing a book or personally like raising a family. Hopes and dreams are important. Without my hopes and dreams, I am not sure I would have really accomplished anything in life. Dreaming gives us direction without it I would have just been following every shiny object that caught my eye. I have been blessed to know people with a list of accomplishments that could make even the most driven person envious. Simultaneously, I have been blessed to know people who are perfectly happy with wondering what it would be like to dream and hope, but for whatever reason, they won’t allow themselves to have any dreams of their own. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. When you find yourself in a place of how to go from dreaming to realizing, that’s where the real work comes in. Here is some of what I have learned through my journey of chasing dreams.
Dreams don’t just fall through our living room ceilings into our lives. We have to be active members of our dreaming. We have to be brave enough to dream them up, and driven enough to chase them. When I look at accomplished people, regardless of what they have accomplished, there is always a common thread; effort. That’s really true of all things in life, the more effort you put in, the more significant the result. Working with so many people from different origins, I observed that effort is not something everyone puts in. A lot of people, myself included at times, are filled with all the reasons why we can’t chase a dream or why it just could never work. I finally had to ask myself, How bad do you want it? It seems easy enough to answer. For most, if they are being honest with themselves, it’s not an easy question. Why? Because this question will reveal what is in their hearts.
As he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7
What we hold in our hearts is what drives our actions. My “talk the good talk” game used to be so strong! I would tell myself and others all the right things. My mouth was saying what I knew it should, but I was still stalled. When I saw no movement in a particular area, I had to dig deep and see where the blockage was really. Every single time, I would find that it was one of two things. I either believed deep down in my heart that I couldn’t or didn’t deserve whatever it was. Or deep down I didn’t really want that thing I was trying to manifest; I realized it was someone else’s heart’s desire. Once we determine why we have stalled, it’s up to us to decide how we get moving. If our heart confirms that our dream is ours, then we need to pick ourselves up and put one foot in front of the other. An effort towards our goals is the only way to realize manifestation. If we recognize that maybe we are stalled because the dream is not ours, perhaps it’s a spouse’s or parents’ dream for us. Honesty is the only thing that will propel you past that kind of stall. Be honest with yourself, you deserve to live your dream!
We all have the power, bravery, and passion for chasing our dreams; will you choose today to step out and dare to dream?
